Hello or we should say Oi ! Ron and the bandits are off to Norfolk to visit the Flipside Festival to take part in the celebrations for all things Brazilian. For one month (16 May until 12 June) all the life-size bandits, horses and associated drawings and artefacts, inspired by his enduring fascination with the notorious Robin Hood of Brazil, Lampiao and his gang, will be on display at The Skippings Gallery, Great Yarmouth. For one week, Ron will also be telling his stories to the local schoolchildren about the exploits of the bandits, his childhood in Rio de Janeiro and other tales. Getting into the 'o espirito do Brazil' back at Ron King Studio, we have also had some fun putting together a short history and selection of his Brazilian inspired work. Here you can see the book cover that ignited his obsession, photographs from the 1930s, two paintings inspired by Brazilian bar signs that Ron did and keeps in his personal collection, some Exvotos plus we reveal a set of bandit inspired collages that he hopes to make into prints some day. If you are a follower of Ron, you will know that his early childhood, growing up in Brazil, and the experiences he had there, were of huge importance to how he has created and made work in his long artistic career ... as he says, "My childhood with my Brazilian friends, making kites and balloons, masks and folded paper toys and of course the 'Carnaval' has had an unending influence on the way I work, darting to and fro, from one project to another !". Hello,
We have flowers, bunches of them, in all colours and varieties. They are Ron's studies in watercolour, pastel, crayon and pencil. We think they might just make the perfect gesture for anyone wanting to give their mother something a bit more this year, when Mothering Sunday comes around on March 6th. These flowers will last and last too...
For the collector, we have the first of Ron's oil paintings Red Flowers from the 1960s, available for sale. A chance to own a unique and rarely seen work.
All the best,
Ron King Studio
This striking silk-screen print could make a lovely one-off and meaningful gift for someone or perhaps you might like one to deck your own halls ...
We are also offering free postage and packaging on the purchase of ANY print from the current Masks and Totems series. Don't forget to take account of last posting days for Christmas, which can be found at Royal Mail.
Lastly, if you are in London, and in the Notting Hill area, head up Portobello Road to Sophie Schneideman's super little gallery, where she has a wide selection of Ron's work - both books and prints.
Seasons Greetings!

Hello… As you can see, the work has been packed and is now being transported to Cardiff. Once there, participants will be able to handle a wide selection of Circle Press books, as well as hear Ron speak. Also included is a selection from the Circle Press Library that features work by Patrick Caulfield, Harold Pinter/Harold Cohen, Karen Bleitz, Ken Campbell and Sam Winston, amongst others. It is a great chance to get up close to these works. The conference, inspired by Ron's donation of the Circle Press collection, is a celebration not only of its work but an in-depth look at the conception and creation of artists' books, both past and present. It promises to be a stimulating event and hopefully inspiring to some future artists now experimenting with the genre. If you are going please share your thoughts, and pictures, with us @ronkingstudio. When Ron returns from Cardiff we will be putting together a new series for the New Year. In the meantime, have a close look at Telecaster ... |

Ron's now iconic interpretation of Chaucer's Prologue to the Canterbury Tales is becoming increasingly rare, with no first-edition books available. In the current Series of Chaucer Masks you can see some first-edition prints but they are very small in number, with only one of each of Host, Nun and Squire, available of this collectable work.
Look closely though and you will be able to see how these week-day prints influenced his first, and now iconic, version of Chaucer's Prologue, which he created a few years later in 1967.
We hope you enjoy seeing these masks as much as we have in re-discovering them here at Ron's studio.
Please let us know what you think of this Series of works @ronkingstudio
Best wishes,
Kerry

A SERIES OF MASKS & TOTEMS
Thank you for all the great feedback to the launch of Ron's site. This last month we have created our first Series: Masks and Totems. This features some very rare first edition prints from Ron's iconic versions of Chaucer's Prologue to the Canterbury Tales and the powerful series of Macbeth images. The hardly seen Early Masks and Totems that informed his work on these two classic texts were exciting finds in the Plan Chest drawers and we have included them too. As we have put this together Ron's behind-the-scenes stories have been so interesting and often funny that we have decided to share these with you. Be sure to click on the links provided so that you don't miss out on some lively reading !
We hope you enjoy the chance to see these pieces once more, or for the first time, and perhaps add them to your collections. Do share his work with others and visit @ronkingstudio.com or to keep updated with what Ron is doing.
