Early Masks

These very early masks were experiments in torn paper screen-printing made as Ron began to move away from painting and the idea of "... just one of anything".
Ron had spent many hours filling his Chelsea sketchbooks and exploring the British Museum making studies of African masks in the 1950s.  Looking back at these, he distilled and pared down the images to create his own modern version of masks.  These one-off and small edition prints, represented each day of the week in which he produced them and are beautiful in their simplicity.
In searching through Ron's plans chest drawers, we were excited to find a few of these are are still in existence.  Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, with two printed on very delicate Japanese wood veneer paper.
